Hume Helping Hands

Background

Hume Helping Hands (HHH) is a trading division of Hume Employment Service Limited (HES). For more than 20 years, HES has assisted people in North East Victoria and Southern New South Wales who have disability, injury or ill-health, to find employment in the open labour market. HHH has been developed to assist in this process by providing clients with a paid work experience opportunity in property and asset maintenance service in Wangaratta and the surrounding areas.

Hume Helping Hands

HHH has been established as a Social Firm under the umbrella of HES. A social firm is a business established with a social benefit in mind. HHH provides clients with a disability or barriers to employment with the opportunity to learn valuable employability and practical on-the-job skills whilst earning an award wage. As social exclusion is also a barrier facing many of our clients with disabilities, HHH provides a means to overcome this hurdle and positively move toward open employment, all in a safe, non-confrontational environment.

HHH provides up to nine months in paid work experience, during which time our Employment Consultants will work proactively with the Project Supervisor to secure sustainable, long term employment in the open job market, leveraging off the clients experience within HHH.

A clear Working with Children and Police check is required prior to commencement with HHH.

Who is Hume Helping Hands?

HHH is managed by an experienced Business Development Manager (BDM) responsible for attracting and retaining business and overseeing day to day operations. An experienced Supervisor is present at all job sites to oversee service delivery and ensure that work carried out to an excellent standard and in a timely manner. The Supervisor will also offer guidance and mentoring to the employees and provide practical assistance when required. Site OH&S adherence will be the responsibility of the Supervisor who has a First Aid Certificate.

Employees of HHH will be HES clients, who have applied for a position with HHH and successfully completed an interview for the role. They will be treated and expected to treat the opportunity as a job in the open employment market. They will be given practical on the job experience through the services provided by HHH on commercial terms, and will learn valuable skills aimed to enhance their opportunities in the open job market. Employees will receive an award wage and be expected to uphold the values of HES.

Employees of HHH will continue to look and apply for other employment opportunities with a plan of securing other sustainable employment within 9 months.
