Australian of the Year Backs "Target 25" Campaign

Australian of the Year, Mr Simon McKeon, is supporting a campaign that aims to find 25 new jobs each month for jobseekers with disabilities.

‘Target 25’ is being run by Hume Employment Service across a region that includes; Albury Wodonga, Benalla, Goulburn, Myrtleford, Seymour, Shepparton, Wangaratta and Yarrawonga.

Mr McKeon will launch ‘Target 25’ in Wodonga next Tuesday (4 October).

Hume Employment Service Chief Executive, Ms Sue Paini, said Mr McKeon genuinely understands the importance of securing employment for people with a disability.

“Simon is a high profile investment banker, Board member for multiple organisations and philanthropist. He also lives with a disability, having been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis some 10 years ago, ” said Sue.

“We’re thrilled that Simon is willing to share his experiences and vision with our clients, their employers, our staff and Board members.”

The themes for Hume Employment Service’s 25th anniversary are: Celebrate, Motivate and Educate.

“We’ve linked these together by developing the ‘Target 25’ campaign of 25 jobs for 25 jobseekers each month,” said Sue Paini.

“We’re striving to break down stereotypes around disability, address potential employer concerns and attract and retain highly motivated staff who can work with people with a disability to find and retain jobs in the open employment market.”

Ms Paini encouraged businesses to get behind ‘Target 25’.

“We can help employers to address skills shortages. Thanks to Australian Government funding, Hume Employment Service can offer employers a range of financial incentives, support for workplace modifications and a free job matching service. Please contact us to confidentially to discuss your business needs.”
