Community Work

Community work allows people to work in an approved volunteer organisation and earn a Training Credit. It is voluntary work undertaken by job seekers and income support recipients who are registered with, and monitored by, a Community Work Coordinator (CWC).

 Community work must:

  • Be of benefit to the community and the Community Work participant

  • Not result in any financial payment to participants over and above their income support

  • Only occur in designated volunteer positions

 Who can do Community Work:

People aged between 18 and 65 and receiving income support are eligible to do Community Work. Community Work is another way to meet mutual obligation if they have to fulfil that requirement.

 The benefits of Community Work:

  • Satisfaction in providing a worthwhile service to the community

  • Valuable work experience

  • Develop new networks

HESL can assist Community Work participants in the Ovens, Goulburn Valley, Hume, Kiewa and Central Murrumbidgee Employment Service areas (see our locations map for area details). These services are delivered from our Wangaratta, Seymour, Shepparton, Benalla, Myrtleford, Wagga Wagga, Albury, Wodonga, Echuca and Yarrawonga offices.

Our friendly and professional staff will ensure that your personal information is treated confidentially, and we deliver these services in accordance with the CWC Service Guarantee and the Employment Services Code of Practice. For more information please contact us.
